Angelina Jolie Cleopatra

Sexy superstar Angelina Jolie is to follow Elizabeth Taylor and play Cleopatra, one of the most iconic glamorous Hollywood roles.

In 1963 British actress Taylor starred in the most memorable film about the Egyptian queen alongside real-life lover Richard Burton as Mark Antony.

Producers of the new movie have yet to say who they want as Antony, but Jolie’s partner Brad Pitt has not been ruled out.

Producer Scott Rudin acquired the rights to author Stacy Schiff’s “Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life” with the 35-year-old Jolie in mind for the title role. No word yet on who is slated to play Cleopatra’s famous love, Mark Antony, however Brad Pitt could just be the perfect fit for the role and if he accepts we will have a Goliath Movie!

Pulitzer prize winner Stacy Schiff believes Jolie, 35, would be perfect for the role, saying: “I can see a possible Oscar. Physically, she’s the perfect look.”

Schiff’s book Cleopatra: A Life, is out later this year and a script for the film is already under way.

Should Angelina take the role, it won’t be the first time the actress has sat on the throne – she played Queen Olympias in 2004′s “Alexander.”

When Elizabeth Taylor starred as Cleopatra in 1963 it was one of the most expensive films ever made costing more than $44m. At today’s prices that would be more than $300m (£206 million)
